A creative space where children learn through art, nature, making, stories and the spaces around them.
Explore Workshops ↓We believe childhood is a time for curiosity — a time to touch, make, question, observe and imagine.
The Children's Studio is imagined as a place where children can explore the world through their hands and their own ideas.
Here, a piece of clay can become a building.
A fallen leaf can become a drawing.
A cardboard box can become a house.
A garden can become a classroom.
We want to create spaces where children are free to experiment, make mistakes, ask questions and discover things for themselves.
A studio.
A garden.
A workshop.
A kitchen.
A forest path.
A piece of paper.
The Children's Studio brings together art, architecture, nature and making to create a different kind of learning environment.
Rather than beginning with answers, we begin with questions.
What does a house need?
How does a seed become a plant?
Why does a building stand?
What can we make from something we would normally throw away?
What does a place feel like?
Small questions can lead to very big ideas.
Clay, paper, wood, fabric, natural materials and found objects become the starting point for making.
Sketching plants, buildings, people, animals and imaginary worlds — drawing not simply as a skill, but as a way of seeing.
Small structures, models, shelters, bridges and experiments introduce children to ideas of architecture, structure and design.
Seeds, soil, plants, food and gardens become part of everyday learning.
Looking closely at trees, insects, birds, water, weather, landscape and the changing seasons.
Through storytelling, play, theatre and creative projects, children are encouraged to invent worlds of their own.
Architecture can be a wonderful way for children to understand the world around them.
Through simple projects, children can explore scale, proportion, shelter, light, materials, structure and place.
They might design a tiny house.
Build a shelter from branches.
Draw the room they would most like to live in.
Make a model of a neighbourhood.
Or simply sit beneath a tree and ask why it feels good to be there.
Architecture becomes less about buildings and more about understanding how we live together and how places make us feel.
The studio is a place for children to experiment freely.
Some things will be beautiful.
Some things will be strange.
Some things may not work at all.
And that is part of making.
We want children to develop the confidence to follow an idea, change their minds and create something that is entirely their own.
A garden can teach patience.
A seed can teach transformation.
A bird can teach observation.
Rain can change a landscape.
A tree can show us how something can grow slowly and still become extraordinary.
The Children's Studio encourages children to spend time outdoors, notice the small things and develop a relationship with the natural world.
Because caring for a place begins with learning to notice it.
The Children's Studio will gradually develop through workshops, seasonal projects and collaborations.
Short creative explorations around art, architecture, nature and making.
Time and space for children to experiment, create and work on their own ideas.
Learning through gardens, landscapes, observation and outdoor exploration.
Playful projects exploring buildings, cities, materials, structures and spaces.
Longer explorations inspired by a particular place, material, plant, animal or idea.
The Children's Studio is an evolving idea — a space we hope will grow through children, families, artists, architects, makers and the places around us.
